Susan Rosenthal

Lawyer, Davies Howe LLP

Susan joined Davies Howe in the spring of 2001 after almost 10 years of running her own practice focusing on all aspects of land use planning and development and developer’s cost sharing. In her 20 years of experience, in addition to practicing law in the private sector, Susan rounded out her background with exposure to both the public and corporate sectors. Susan learned about the inner workings of the public sector as in house counsel for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. In addition, Susan’s experience in the corporate sector, managing a portfolio of approximately 5,000 residential units, nursing homes and a hotel chain for a real estate and syndication company, has given her a full understanding of the practical challenges facing all participants in the land development business.

Susan has represented clients throughout the province of Ontario with respect to a wide range of matters arising in the context of land development, including planning applications, development charge issues, and complex cost sharing and front ending arrangements. She has appeared before the Divisional Court and various administrative tribunals including the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) and the Rent Review Hearings Board. Her experience also includes the financing, development and conveyancing of commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-residential projects.

Susan’s life outside of work extends to her husband, Mark, and her three children who keep her moving between horseback riding, skating, swimming, baseball, hockey, and basketball.
